I've been going here once or twice a month for the last few years. Great homemade ice cream and very reasonable prices. The flavors change frequently so don't be surprised if they don't have chocolate or vanilla when you go. They also have a bunch of other candy and sweets. The service has always been prompt and friendly. It's a wonderful little neighborhood spot and a place we frequent on walks.

The only reason I gave 3 stars is credit to the ice cream and chocolate. Otherwise, it would have been a two. Service here has seriously gone downhill since I moved to the neighborhood. It's always been teens and sometimes you encounter less than helpful, "I don't want to work" attitudes... walking in to find socializing to the point of ignoring customers, no one behind the counter, begrudgingly ringing up transactions. I've also had great, smiling service. But in recent years it's been more of the former to the point where I no longer stop in as much. It isn't the first place in town I offer up when taking the kids out for ice cream which is sad because it is the closest. The ice cream and chocolate are wonderful. Their cashew turtles are my favorite. However, the last time I went in... they seemed to be out of at least half of their offered chocolates (wasn't a holiday, or that late into the summer). I chose to get a small box anyway, and as I was picking the last item.... I realized the kid behind the counter was touching the chocolates with his bare hands. I didn't see him wash his hands. I have no idea where they could have been. Aren't they supposed to use paper or gloves? I was so disgusted most of the box ended up getting thrown away because I didn't eat it.

A long bike ride on our visit to La Crosse found us cruising down 16th Street. My girlfriend and I both see this ancient looking ice cream shop smack in the middle in the neighborhood, so you just assume it's going to be awesome. And awesome it was. All homemade ice cream. Tons of flavors. Draft root beer for a song. It's pretty much a dream come true. And all for ridiculously reasonable prices. I walked out with an photo-op, massive, true three-scooper for just over two bucks. As my lady said, if she lived across the street from that joint, she'd weigh 400 lbs.

Let me tell you, here's another place I ate at with my fiance when I was pregnant. I was too scared to venture into the unknown flavors to be honest, but he tried something they had that was different. I can't remember the name of it. It was cow's something. I had cookie dough. It's a little small in the shop, but the lady behind the counter had a good sense of humor and was informative. The flavor of the ice cream was amazing and just sitting outside in the summer was nice and it was a good place to go for a date with my fiance.

I've been obsessed with Ranison's since I moved to La Crosse. And now that I've moved, I'm even more obsessed. I can't get it out of my mind! The people here are so friendly and helpful: I'll never forget the time I walked out with my sugar cone of M&M ice cream and dropped it in less than a second. I went back in, clearly emotional because their M&M flavor is my favorite, and explained that I dropped my ice cream. They didn't even laugh at me as they made me a whole new cone, and that was appreciated because I was a hilarious, hysterical, wreck! The service is top-notch. The ice cream is incredible also. Chocolate Peanut Butter, M&M, Pumpkin, and so many more awesome flavors. They also sell ice cream by the pint, so you can take home your favorites for another day. If ice cream isn't your thing, check out their candy selection. They have some delectable treats in that case! And for all you that are 21+, browse the beer coolers while waiting for to order your cone. They have a pretty decent selection considering the size of their store. And!... Oh now I'm just raving. I hope you get my point! Ranison Ice Cream is the best in the city, way better than The Pearl. If you don't believe me, maybe this article will convince you. weau.com/wanderingwiscon… Go now! While it is still summer and warm enough for ice cream...

This store was an absolute delight! My husband and I felt like we had stepped back in time about forty years when quality product and customer appreciation was the norm. The ice cream is hand made by the owner and it was exceptional! Freshness you could honestly taste. The flavors were the familiar along with some original flavors. But not so odd you wouldn't want to try them. The Manager of the store is Missy and she topped off the experience with her genuine and happy personality. She truly made our trip there an unforgettable memory.
